AD Mathews' 85* followed by Malinga's 4 for and Silva's 3 wickets led Sri Lanka to upset England by 20 runs

27th match of ICC cricket worldcup 2019 played between England vs Sri Lanka on Friday, June 21, 2019 at Headingley, Leeds. Opting to bat first, Sri Lanka after having lost both openers on 3 runs, managed to put good fighting total of 232 runs in 50 overs. Fernando 49, Kusal Mendis 46 and AD Mathews' 85 unbeaten runs were highlights of Sri Lanka inning. Mark Wood and Jofra Archer bowled well and took 3 wickets each.

England in reply managed to score 212 runs and lost the match by 20 runs. JE Root made 57 runs and BA Stokes played brave inning of 82* runs for England. SL Malinga bowled excelent spell and took 4 wickets of 43 runs. Dhananjaya de Silva also took 3 wickets. Malinga declared man of the match.
