5th Group Stage match of Asia Cup twenty20 2016 has beenplayed between Bangladesh and Sri Lanka on February 28,2016 at Sher-e-Bangla Cricket Stadium, Mirpur. Opting to bat first, Bangladesh lost openers early but, Sabbir Rahman's firing 80 of 54 led them to put 147 runs at the end of 20 overs. Sri Lanka in reply made 124 runs and lost the match by 23 runs. Sabbir Rahman declared man of the match for his 80 of 54 balls.

Earlier, Bangladesh won the toss and elected to bat first. Opting to bat first, Bangladesh lost both openers early. Mushfiqur Rahim also got unfortunately runs out scoring 4 runs. Sabbir Rahman and Shakib Al Hasan took the charge in hand and played sensible cricket in middle overs. Shakib Al Hasan made well 32 runs and Sabbir Rahman played firing inning of 80 runs just in 54 balls and put Bangladesh on good score of 147 runs in 20 overs.

Following target of 148 runs, Sri Lanka lost TM Dilshan early scoring 12 runs. LD Chandimal and DSNFG Jayasuriya took charge in hand and played good innings for Sri Lanka initially. Both played sensible cricket and added 56 runs for 2nd wicket. LD Chandimal contributed 37 runs before lost his wicket. DSNFG Jayasuriya also made well 26 runs in his short inning. Other midle and lowers order batsmen could not bat well and Sri Lanka managed to score 124 runs and lost the match by 23 runs.
