8th match of ICC Champions Trophy 2017 played between India and Sri Lanka of Group B on Thursday, June 08, 2017 at Kennington Oval, London. Putting into bat first by Sri Lanka, India with excellent batting performances managed to put huge score of 321 runs in 50 overs. S Dhawan smashed 125 runs. RG Sharma & MS Dhoni made 78 and 63 runs respectively. Sri Lanka in reply bated superbly chasing huge 322 runs and made comprehensive win by 7 wkts with 8 ball remaining. Kushal Mendis declared man of the match for his 89 runs.
Earlier, Sri Lanka won the toss and chose to firld first. India putting into bat first got excellent start with RG Sharma and S Dhawan initially. Both played quick and sensible cricket and added 138 runs in 24.5 overs before RG Sharma got out scoring very well 78 runs. This was his 2nd consecutive fifty of Champion Trophy 2017. Skipper V Kohli had not good day today he came in middle but gone for a duck. Yuvraj Singh also failed today and left the firled contributing just 7 runs. MS Dhoni joined with Shikhar Dhawan to take charge in hand for India. Dhawan has already smashed fifty with superb bating as that stage and India were 179/3 in 33.3 overs. Dhoni and Dhawan played excellent cricket in middle overs and put India good position. S Dhawan smashed 125 runs and MS Dhoni contributed quick 63 runs of 52 balls. KM Jadhav in last few overs smashed 25 runs of 13 balls helps India to put huge 321 runs in 50 overs.
Following huge target of 322 runs, Sri Lanka lost wicketkeeper batsman N Dickwella early scoring just 7 runs. MD Gunathilaka and BKG Mendis took the charge in hand for Sri Lanka and played superb innings of 76 and 89 runs before unfortunately got run outs. AD Mathews and MDKJ Perera came in middle and played good cricket in middle overs. .Perera retired hut scoring 47 runs but he put Sri Lanka on driving seat as well. Rest was done by skipper Mathews and DAS Gunaratne with 52* and 34* to present well deserve win over India by 7 wickets with 8 balls remaining.
