1st Test Day-4 : Ollie Pope's 196 runs & Tom Hartley's 9 wickets in match powered England to upset India by 28 runs and led series 1-0

1st Test match of five test match series between India vs England at Rajiv Gandhi International Stadium, Hyderabad during Thursday, 25 to Monday 29 January, 2024.

Day-1

Opting to bat first, England with skipper Ban Stokes' 70 runs and Jonny Bairstow's 37 runs managed to score 246 runs in 1st inning. Ravindra Jadeja and R Ashwin took 3 wickets each. Bumrah and Axar also picked up 2 wickets each for India as well. India are 119/1 at stumps day-1. Yashasvi Jaiswal with 76 and Shubman Gill with 14 runs in middle to resume 2nd day play. India trail by 127 runs.

Day-2

Batting on 2nd day, India with Jaiswal's 80, KL Rahul's 86 and Ravindra Jadeja's wonderful unbeaten 81 runs score 421/7 at stumps. Srikar Bharat with 41, Shreyas Iyer with 35 and Axar Patel with unbeaten 35 runs contributed well for India as well. Tom Hartley and Joe Root with 2 wickets each were top bowlers for England. India earn 175 runs healthy lead and still counting.

Day-3

Resume batting on 3rd day, India team al out scoring 436 runs Ravindra Jadeja with 87 runs was top scorer for India. Joe Root took 4 wickets for England as well. Batting in 2nd inning with 190 runs debt, England were 316/6 at stumps. Ollie Pope played superb inning of unbeaten 148 runs with excellent batting. England lead by 126 runs and still counting at stumps day-3.

Day-4

Resume batting on 4th day, England team all out scoring 420 runs. Ollie Pope with 196 runs was top scorer for England. Jasprit Bumrah took 4 wickets for India as well. Batting in 2nd inning with 231 runs targert, team India all out scoring 202 runs and lost the match by 28 runs. Tom Hartley bowled wonderful spell and took 7 wickets. Ollie Pope declared man of the match for his 196 runs. England led 5-match series 1-0.
