1st Match of ICC ODI Cricket World Cup 2023 between England vs New Zealand at Narendra Modi Stadium, Ahmedabad on Thursday, October 05, 2023.

New Zealand won the toss and chose to field first. England batting first, with Joe Root's 77 runs and Jos Buttler's 43 runs managed to set good target of 283 runs for New Zealand to get. Matt Henry with three wickets and Mitchell Santner & Glenn Phillips with two wickets each were top bowlers for New Zealand.

Following 283 runs target, New Zealand lost Will Young for a duck on team score 10 runs. Devon Conway and Rachin Ravindra took the charge in hand and played record breaking 273 unbeaten runs 2nd wickets partnership and presented New Zealand convinsing win by 9 wickets with 82 balls remaining.
