16th Match of ICC ODI Cricket World Cup 2023 between New Zealand vs Afghanistan at MA Chidambaram Stadium, Chennai on Wednesday, October 18, 2023.

Putting into bat first by Afghanista, New Zealand were 110/4 in 21.4 overs after losing three quick wickets just in 1 run. Tom Latham and GD Phillps took the charge in hand and played superb innings. Tom Latham made 68 runs and Glenn Phillips contributed well 71 runs before lost wickets. Will Young also played good 54 runs inning. New Zealand managed to set huge target of 289 runs for Afghanistan to get. Naveen-ul-Haq and Azmatullah Omarzai took 2 wickets each for Afghanistan as well.

Following huge target of 289 runs, Afghanistan most batemen failed to bat well and lost wickets in regular interwals. Afghanistan team all out scoring just 139 runs in 34.4 overs and lost the match by huge margins of 149 runs. Rahmat Shah's 36 runs was highest score for Afghanistan. Mitchell Santner and Lockie Ferguson took 3 wickets each for New Zealand. Glenn Phillips declared man of the match for his 71 runs.
