1st one day international match of 5-match series between India and Australia has been played at MA Chidambaram Stadium, Chennai today. Opting to bat first, India after top orders collapsed managed to put good total of 281 runs in 50 overs. Hardik Pandya's 83 of 66 balls and MS Dhoni's sensible 79 runs hepls India to a decent total of 281 runs to defend. In a rain delayed match Australia given revised target of 164 run in 21 overs. Australia score 137/9 in 21 overs and lost the match by 26 runs (D/L). HH Pandya declared man of the match for his 83 runs and 2 wickets.
Earlier, India won the toss and chose to bat first. Opting to bat first, India could not made batter start and lost 3 wickets of just 11 runs. AM Rahane 5, V Kohli 0 and MK Pandey 0 were top three wicket fallen just in 5.3 overs. RG Sharma and KM Jadhav played good cricket for few overs but left the field scoring 28 and 40 runs respectively. MS Dhoni and Hardik Pandya came in middle when India were 87/5 in 22nd over. Both shape-up India's inning well and played excellent cricket in midle overs. Hardik Pandya smashed 83 runs of 66 balls with 5 massive sixes and 5 superb fours in his brave inning. Ms Dhoni bated till last over and contribute well 79 runs and helps India to put decent total of 281/7 runs in 50 overs.
Rain delayed match in 2nd half and Australia given target of 238 runs to win in 37 overs. Players came in the middle and once again rain started and match could not begin. After an hour match once again started on 8:30pm and Australia given revised target of 164 runs to win in 21 overs. Australia could not made batter start and lost three quick wickets just in 29 runs. HWR Cartwright 1, skipper SPD Smith 1 and TM Head 5 runs were top 3 wickets of Australia. HH Pandya took 2 of top 3 wickets fallen of Australia. Other four wickets shared by spinners Kuldeep Yadav (2) & YS Chahal (2) and Australia were 93/7 in 15.2 overs. At the end of 21 overs Australia managed to score 137/9 runs and lost thr match by 26 runs (D/L).
