Day 4 : India won series 2-0 & clinch No.1 Test Ranking from Pakistan as today crushed New Zealand by 178 runs
4th day of Kolkata Test India ended 2nd inning with 263 runs and gave New Zealand 376 runs target to win the match. WP Saha bated well and contributed unbeaten 58 runs for India. New Zealand got good 2nd inning start with TWM Latham and MJ Guptill initially. Both top orders removed by R Ashwin with superb bowling performance. MJ Guptill made 24 and TWM Latham contributed well 74 runs before left the field. Next man HM Nicholls also played small but good inning of 24 runs before sent to pavillion by RA Jadeja. Pace bowler Mohammed Shami also picked up 2 wickets and gave India hope to win on 4th day of the test as well. At Last New Zealand team managed to score 197 runs and lost the match by 178 runs on 4th day of the match. Mhd Sami, R Ashwin and RA Jadeja picked up 3 wickets each for India and powered to a series win over New Zealand by 2-0. WP Saha declared man of the match for his unbeaten fifties in both inning ( 54* & 58*) with superb batting performances. By winning this match India claim No.1 Test Ranking team.
Day 3 : RG Sharma's 82 in tough batting conditions helps India to a good defeanding lead over New Zealand
3rd day of Kolkata Test India ended with 227/8 at stump. New Zealand resumed with 128/7 in the morning and managed to add more 76 runs in previous day totals and all out scoring 204 runs before lunch. JS Patel played well and contributed well 47 runs for New Zealand. India got 112 runs lead over New Zealand. India could not made batter start and lost early 4 wickets of just 43 runs. Skipper V Kohli played good inning of 45 runs but faild to play long inning. Last recognised batsmen of India inning RG Sharma took the charge in hand and played superb cricket in middle in a tough batting conditions. He made useful 82 runs before got out. Wicket keeper batsman WP Saha also played well and remained unbeaten till end and contributed 39 runs. India were 227/8 at stump day 3 and lead by 339 runs with 2 wickets remaining. WP Saha 39*, B Kumar 8* will resume India's 2nd inning on day 4 and will try to give New Zealand big total to chase.
Day 2 : B Kumar with 5 wkts haul put India on front foot as New Zealand ended 128/7 in 1st innings at stump
2nd day of Kolkata Test New Zealand ended with 128/7 at stump. India resumed with 239/7 in the morning and managed to add more 77 runs in previous day totals and all out scoring 316 runs before lunch. WP Saha played well and contributed unbeaten 54 runs for India. New Zealand could not made batter start and lost 3 wickets early just in 23 runs. Both Indian pace bowlers bowled well today and trouble New Zealand top and middle orders a lot. B Kumar picked up 5 wickets of 33 runs in 10 overs. Mhd Sami and RA Jadeja took 1 wickets each for India. New Zealand are in deep trouble as lost 7 wickets scoring 128 runs and trail by 188 runs with 3 wickets remaining in the 1st innings at stump Day 2.
Day 1 : CA Pujara 87 & AM Rahane with 77 helped India to put 239/7 on 1st day of Kolkata Test at stump
1st day of Kolkata Test India ended with 239/7 at stump. Opting to bat first after winning Toss in the morning, India could not made batter start and lost Dhawan (1) , M Vijay (9) and skipper V Kohli (9) early. New Zealand pace bowlers MJ Henry 2 and TA Boult with 1 wickets already broke the back bone of India in very 1st season. CA Pujara and AM Rahane took the charge in hand and played slow but sensible cricket for India. Both smashed fifties and contributed well 87 and 77 runs before left the field in later half. CA Pujara smashed his 3rd consecutive 50s and put India in position to a good 1st inning score. JS Patel strikes twice for New Zealand in later half of the day and put India in to trouble as well. India at stumps 239/7 with WP Saha 14*, RA Jadeja 0* to resume batting on 2nd day.
