MJ Guptill's 72 followed by accurate bowling helps New Zealand to Win by 19 runs defending 260 at Ranchi
4th One Day International of 5 ODI series between India and New Zealand has been played at JSCA Stadium, Ranchi today. Opting to bat first, New Zealand put good total of 260 runs in 50 overs with MJ Guptill's 72 and KS Williamson's 41 runs. India in reply managed to score 241 runs in 48.4 overs and lost the match by 19 runs. New Zealand level 5 ODI match series 2-2. MJ Guptill declared man of the match for his 72 runs.
Earlier, New Zealand skipper KS Williamson won the toss for the first time in this tour and decided to bat first and set decent target for host team India. The decision turns right and New Zealand made quick and confident start with MJ Guptill and TWM Latham initially. Both played good cricket and added 96 runs for 1st wicket before TWM Latham lost his wicket scoriing 39 runs. Skipper KS Williamson joined with Guptill and took the charge in hand. He made well 41 runs before left the field. MJ Guptill contributed well and made superb 72 runs before got out by HH Pandya. Middle order batsman LRPL Taylor also played slow but sensible inning and made 35 runs. New Zealand managed to put good total of 260 runs in 50 overs having lost 7 wickets.
Following target of 261 runs, India once again could not made batter start and lost RG Sharma early scoring just 11 runs. V Kohli joined with AM Rahane and played good inning as expected. Kohli made 45 runs and AM Rahane contributed 57 runs before left the field. MS Dhoni failed today and got out scoring just 11 runs. Other middle order batsmen also failed to bat sensible cricket and continued to lost wickets in regular interwals. Tail enders AR Patel 38 and DS Kulkarni 25 runs tried their level best but not enough to reach New Zealand total and India lost the match by 19 runs and all out in 48.4 overs. New Zealand level 5-match series 2-2.
