VIVO IPL 2017 season 10 49th encounter between Kings XI Punjab vs Kolkata Knight Riders at Punjab Cricket Association Stadium, Mohali, Chandigarh on May 09, 2017 at 8:00 pm. Putting into bat first by Kolkata, Punjab managed to put good total of 167 runs in 20 overs with GJ Maxwell's 44 and WP Saha's 38 runs. Kolkata in reply managed to score 153/6 runs in 20 overs and lost the match by 14 runs. Punjab all bowlers bowled tight bowling but Mohit Sharma declared man of the match for his superb bowling 3-0-24.2.
Earlier, Kolkata won the toss and put Punjab into bat first. Putting into bat first by Knight Riders, Punjab got good start with M Vohra and MJ Guptill initially. M Vohra got out in 5th over having score 25 runs and MJ Guptill also followed him scoring 12 runs. SE Marsh had not good day today and left the field early scoring 11 runs and KXIP were in trouble to put good total. WP Saha and skipper GJ Maxwell took the charge in hand for Punjab and played good innings in middle overs. Both made 38 and 44 runs respectively and put Punjab on good total of 167 runs in 20 overs.
Following target of 168 runs, Kolkata got once again firing start with SP Narine and CA Lynn initially. Narine got out in hurry scoring 18 runs. Skipper Gambhir (8) and RV Uthappa (0) were another two quick wickets put Kolkata in trouble. CA Lynn at other end played another good inning for KKR and completed his 3rd fifty of IPL 2017 quickly. He made very well 84 runs of 52 balls before got unfortunately run out of AR Patel's superb throw from the deep. Other middle orders failed to bat well and KKR managed to score 153/6 runs on 20 overs and lost the match by 14 runs. Punjab made very well needed win to stay alive for playoffs as well.
