Putting into bat first by Kolkata, Chennai with Ruturaj Gaikwad's 42 balls 64 runs, Faf du Plessis' 95 unbeaten 60 balls 95 runs and MS Dhoni's 9 balls 17 runs set huge target of 221 runs for Kolkata to get. MP Krishna conceded 49 runs and PAt Cummins 58 runs for Kolkata.

Following huge target of 221 runs, Kolkata at one stage 5/31 in 5.2 overs. AD Russell came in and played firing inning of 22 balls 54 runs with six massive sixes. In later overs Pat Cummins came in to bat and smashed 23 balls fifty with 6 huge sixes and put Kolkata in game again. At last Kolkata team all out scoring 202 runs in 19.1 overs and lost the match by 18 runs. Cummins remained not out scoring 34 balls 66 runs, Deepak Chahar bowled well and took 4 wickets of 29 runs. du Plessis declared man of the match.
