Bumrah's 5 wkts haul followed by RG Sharma & Dhoni's special batting powered India to won the match by 6 wickets and won 5-match series 3-0
3rd one-day international match of five ODI match series between Sri Lanka and India played today at Pallekele International Cricket Stadium. Opting to bat first, Sri Lanka once again failed to put big score and put 217/9 in 50 overs. HDRL Thirimanne played good inning of 80 runs for Sri Lanka. India in reply having lost 4 for 61 runs early, with RG Sharma and MS Dhoni's special batting won the match by 6 wickets with 29 balls remaining. RG Sharma smashed century with 124 unbeaten runs but J Bumrah declared man of the match for his 1st five wickets haul with excellent bowling performances 10-2-27-5.
Earlier, Sri Lankan acting captain CK Kapugedera won the toss and decided to bat first. Opting to bat first, Sri Lanka lost two wicket early on 28 runs. In coming man D Chandimal and HDRL Thirimanne took the charge in hand and played good cricket initially. Both played slow cricket and put team on 100 runs in 26th over. Chandimal made his way scoring 36 runs. HDRL Thirimanne played good inning of 80 runs but other middle and lower order batsmen faled to understans JJ Bumrah's pace bowling well and contunued to lost their wickets in regular interwals. Sri Lanka managed to pur small total of 217 runs in 50 overs having lost 9 wickets. JJ Bumrah bowled very well and picked up 5 wickets of his 10 overs spending just 27 runs. This was his 1st five-wicket haul in ODIs.
Following target of 218 runs, India could nor made batter start and lost 2 wickets of just 19 runs in 6th over. Dhawan and skipper Kohli left the field early. KL Rahul joined with RG Sharma and played some good cricket for few overs. KL Rahul got out by Dhananjaya with poor short and next man KM Jadhav also followed him for a duck lbw by A Dhananjaya as well. India were in trouble chasing 218 runs as 61/4 in 15.1 overs. MS Dhoni joined with RG Sharma and took the charge in as he did in previous match. He supported well to Rohit Sharma and rotate strikes with excllent batting preformance. Rohit complete his century and Dhoni also made his fifty to reach Sri Lanka's total 217 runs. Both remained not out till and contributed huge for India's chase. RG Sharma made 124* annd MS Dhoni contributed 67* runs. India registered comprehensive six wickets win in 45.1 over having lost 4 wickets. India won the 5-match odis series by 3-0 as well.
