Rising Pune Super Giants is a new introduced 2016 IPL team for season 9 along with Rajkot based franchise. Before IPL 2016 Auction process, Pune Super Giants got and opportunity to draft 5 players from suspended Chennai and Rajasthan players. Pune having made the most successful bid got the first chance pick player in the draft process. Pune drafted Three Indian and Two Overseas Players. MS Dhoni was the first one to be picked by the Pune based franchise. Pune also drafted other four players Ajinkya Rahane, R Ashwin, Steven Smith (Aus) and Faf du Plessis (SA).
Pune franchise lost INR 39 crore from its auction purse, and will have INR 27 crore to spend at the auction in Bangalore to make up the rest of Rising Pune Supergiants squad for IPL 2016.
