Rajkot based franchise Gujarat Lions is a new introduced 2016 IPL team for season 9 along with Rising Pune Supergiants franchise. Before IPL 2016 Auction process, Rajkot got and opportunity to draft 5 players from suspended Chennai and Rajasthan players. Gujarat Lions drafted Two Indian and Three Overseas Players. Rajkot drafted Suresh Raina, Ravindra Jadeja, Brendon McCullum (NZ), Dwayne Bravo (WI), James Faulkner (Aus).
Rajkot franchise lost INR 39 crore from its auction purse, and will have INR 27 crore to spend at the auction in Bangalore to make up the rest of Rajkot squad for IPL 2016.
